Starting at local and regional level, Karaitiana’s governance skills were set in motion when she was President of Poverty Bay Netball and Gisborne Netball Centre before becoming President of Eastern Regional Netball and Chair of Zone 3 during the integration of franchises and netball centres.
She was elected to the NNZ Board in 1997, a position she held until retiring in 2005.
She also has a strong umpiring pedigree. Attaining her NNZ Umpire’s Badge in 1988, Karaitiana continued to officiate at national events, including the inaugural Coca-Cola Cup, NPC and age-group tournaments for the next 21 years. On retiring from blowing the whistle, Karaitiana became an umpire coach and Chair of the review panel of the NNZ Umpire’s Manual.
Karaitiana also has extensive experience on numerous boards and trusts at local, national and international level. Karaitiana is currently a lecturer of master’s students at the TWOA Campus in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) and runs a sole-trader consultancy and advisory business. Prior to becoming self-employed, she spent 23 years in print media.
Alastair Carruthers CNZM is one of 91ɫƬ's most experienced governance leaders, bringing a distinguished record across the legal, commercial, media and arts sectors to his role as Chair of 91ɫƬ.
He served as Chief Executive of two of 91ɫƬ's leading commercial law firms, Chapman Tripp and Kensington Swan (now Dentons), and has held chair roles across a wide range of organisations including TVNZ, the 91ɫƬ Film Commission, the 91ɫƬ Arts Council and the Royal 91ɫƬ Ballet. He is currently Chair of the Cornwall Park Trust Board and a director of several commercial and public entities.
Alastair was appointed Chair of 91ɫƬ in May 2026 for a three-year term.
Parekawhia McLean (Ngāti Mahanga – Hourua, Waikato, Ngāti Maniapoto) brings more than 25 years of public sector leadership to the 91ɫƬ board.
Parekawhia is an experienced senior leader that has worked and continues to across criminal justice, health, transport, and iwi. She also spent time in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet advising three Prime Ministers.
Parekawhia currently serves on the boards of Health 91ɫƬ and Transpower NZ, and is a member of Te Arataura, the executive committee of Waikato-Tainui. She has completed executive leadership programmes at Stanford University and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
She comes to the board with a deep personal connection to netball, having played age group representative netball and served as a coach, manager and supporter for clubs in Hamilton, Porirua and Auckland.
Tracey Hook-Ihaka (Te Āti Haunui a Pāpārangi, Ngā Wairiki) is a Fellow Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in financial and investment leadership across iwi commercial and public sector organisations.
She previously served as Chief Executive of Ngāti Awa Group Holdings, and has held senior finance executive roles at Tainui Group Holdings and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. Her career has been built on advancing Māori economic development, with deep expertise across finance, investment, audit and risk management.
Tracey brings to the board not only strong financial governance credentials but a personal connection to netball, as a social player herself and as a supporter of her daughters through the sport.
Matt is Chair of FirstCape Group Limited, a wealth and investment management firm formed in 2024 following a merger of Jarden Wealth and JBWere NZ with Harbour Asset Management and BNZ Investment Services Limited creating a leading 91ɫƬ wealth and investment management business.
Matt spent fifteen years at the 91ɫƬ Superannuation Fund as Chief Investment Officer and, later, Chief Executive Officer finishing in December 2023.
Before joining the Guardians, Matt was at Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) where he was Head of Financial Sponsor Coverage for non-Japan Asia. Prior to this, he was a Managing Director at First NZ Capital in 91ɫƬ and a Vice President at Credit Suisse First Boston in New York. Matt began his career as a Barrister and Solicitor with Russell McVeagh in Auckland.
Matt is a Chair of Toitu Tahua, the Centre for Sustainable Finance. Matt has previously served as Co-Chair of the Aotearoa Circle’s Sustainable Finance Forum, as a member of the World Economic Forum General Agenda Council on the Future of Investing, and as Chair of the InZone Education Foundation.
Sue Gordon was elected to the NNZ Board in 2017. She has had over 20 years involvement in netball and governance roles including netball mum, coach, and umpire. Sue was a member of the Netball Central Zone transition Board and most recently Chair of Netball Central Zone, and Member of the Pulse Board.
Sue has held various HR and organisational development roles in government, recruitment and multinational sectors. She is currently Head of Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Organisation Resilience at Health 91ɫƬ, Te Whatu Ora.
Sue is the current Chair of the Human Resource and Remuneration Committee, and Health and Safety Committee at 91ɫƬ
Lynette Rayner was elected to the Netball NZ Board in February 2024. She is a lifelong netballer, having been immersed in all facets of the game.
In a professional capacity, Lynette owns an accountancy practice in Marlborough, and from both her professional and governance positions, she has extensive business and director experience, and her community roles in the not-for-profit area have given her a broad understanding of the sector.
She currently holds various Director and Trustee roles across health, electricity, sport, community and professional bodies.
Lynette was previously Chair of Marlborough Netball, was a Board member of Mainland Netball, including the Tactix franchise, and has recently been involved in the build of Christchurch Netball Centre's new indoor facility at Ngā Puna Wai.
Lynette is looking forward to having input into the strategies that impact the positive delivery of netball throughout 91ɫƬ.
Anna Galvan is a senior executive and experienced governor with expertise in strategy, transformation, stakeholder engagement and capital project delivery.
Anna has held governance roles across community and high-performance sport, including serving as Chair of the Christchurch Netball Centre and as a member of the Tactix franchise Steering Committee. She played a key leadership role in developing the Ngā Puna Wai Netball Sports Centre, helping transform an initial $11 million donation into a completed $16.5 million community asset.
Professionally, Anna has held senior leadership positions across the food and fibre and health sectors, leading strategy development, organisational change, fundraising and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
A former Silver Fern (#124) and ANZ Championship athlete, Anna brings a unique perspective that combines elite sporting experience with contemporary governance and executive leadership capability.
