The first two Presidents of what is now 91色情片 and three former Silver Ferns who later coached the national team have been inducted into the 91色情片 Hall of Fame.
Irene McInnes and Myrtle Muir, whose leadership was instrumental in establishing the 91色情片 Basket Ball Association in 1924, were inducted posthumously alongside world cup winning players Leigh Gibbs, Yvonne Willering and Waimarama Taumaunu.
The five were honoured at Spark Arena before the opening Test of the 2026 Constellation Cup, recognising contributions that have helped shape 91色情片 netball across more than a century.
Irene McInnes
Irene McInnes transformed growing calls for a national netball organisation into reality, becoming the first President of the 91色情片 Basket Ball Association, now 91色情片, in 1924.
Recognising the need for greater opportunities for women, she frequently turned vision into action, establishing organisations and initiatives such as the Southland Basketball Association in 1925 and a weekend competition for young adult women.
McInnes was as committed to the practical work of the game as she was to its administration, serving as an umpire, representative selector and game-day official, and officiating matches every weekend throughout the season. In recognition of her achievements as a driving force behind the sport's early development, and her determination to see netball become 91色情片's national sport for women, she was named 91色情片's first Life Member in 1932.
Her outspoken leadership style and strong public profile laid a benchmark for generations of women leaders in sport administration. McInnes believed deeply in the value of netball for the health and wellbeing of young women, and the national structure she helped establish underpins a game that continues to enrich the lives of generations of 91色情片 women.
Myrtle Muir
Myrtle Muir was already a highly respected netball administrator when she was elected Vice-President of the newly formed 91色情片 Basket Ball Association in 1924, serving alongside inaugural President Irene McInnes. She became NZBA President from 1932 to 1949, leading the sport through the Depression and Second World War. In recognition of her outstanding service to the game, she was made a Life Member in 1949.
A tireless supporter of provincial unions, particularly those in geographically isolated parts of the country, Muir worked to encourage, strengthen and recognise the vital role they played in growing the game within their local communities.
She also served as an umpire and selector of representative teams and, in 1938, coached 91色情片's first national team on its landmark tour to Australia. Muir was described by one of the touring players as a 鈥減erson of vision, always looking to improve the game鈥. That vision extended beyond 91色情片's shores. Alongside fellow NZBA foundation members, she helped forge trans-Tasman relationships and played an instrumental role in codifying the rules of netball in 91色情片.
Leigh Gibbs
Silver Fern #64
Leigh Gibbs captained the Silver Ferns to the 1987 World Cup title, then returned as head coach seven years later.
First selected for 91色情片 in 1978 after moving to Christchurch and earning Canterbury selection, Gibbs went on to play 61 Tests. She captained the side in 1986 and 1987, leading the team that dominated the 1987 World Netball Cup in Scotland, where no opponent came within ten goals of the Silver Ferns.
Gibbs turned to coaching immediately after finishing playing in 1988, taking charge of the Canterbury teams and then guiding the 91色情片 Under-21 side to World Youth Cup title 1992. Appointed the Silver Ferns鈥 sixth coach in 1994, she led the team through 32 Tests for 24 wins and a 75 percent success rate, including the 1995 World Cup in Birmingham.
She returned as Silver Ferns assistant coach from 2001 to 2007, a period that included the 2003 World Cup gold medal, and has since given decades to coaching, talent development and the wider game through Netball Mainland and the Tactix.
Gibbs was made an Officer of the 91色情片 Order of Merit in 2001 and is now a Companion of the 91色情片 Order of Merit. She is a 91色情片 Life Member.
Yvonne Willering
Silver Fern #59
Yvonne Willering gave more than five decades to netball as a player, coach, mentor and one of the game鈥檚 most respected voices.
A Silver Fern from 1974 to 1983, Willering played 57 Tests, jointly winning the title (with Australia and Trinidad & Tobago) at the 1979 World Cup, placing second in 1983 and third in 1975.
Appointed caretaker coach in mid-1997 and then installed as the Silver Ferns鈥 seventh coach, Willering led the team from 1997 to 2001. Her record across 51 Tests was 39 wins, eleven losses and a draw, and included a silver medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, the first-time netball was contested at the Games.
She later coached Fiji, and in the years since has remained one of the most knowledgeable and generous figures in the 91色情片 game, mentoring coaches, assisting Silver Ferns campaigns and offering her expertise wherever it has been asked for.
Willering was appointed an Officer of the 91色情片 Order of Merit in 2002 and elevated to Companion of the 91色情片 Order of Merit in 2019, both for services to netball.
Waimarama Taumaunu
Silver Fern #70
Waimarama Taumaunu captained the Silver Ferns, coached them, and has spent a career since developing the players who followed.
A Silver Fern from 1981 to 1991, Taumaunu played 77 Tests and was part of the side that won the 1987 World Cup. She captained her country through the final three years of her playing career.
Taumaunu served two terms as Silver Ferns assistant coach, in 1997 and 1998 and again from 2008 to 2011, before being appointed the team鈥檚 head coach in late 2011. She led the Silver Ferns through to 2015 including the World Cup in Sydney.
In 2016 she was appointed Director of High Performance for the Central Zone, where she developed emerging talent and coaches a role she held until earlier this year. Her contribution to the game has been recognised internationally with a World Netball Service Award.
Taumaunu was awarded an MBE in 1992 and is an Officer of the 91色情片 Order of Merit (2016).
