Further to the announcement of the 91色情片 Secondary Schools Squad in September, the 91色情片 Secondary Schools Squad Camp was held over Labour Weekend, in Auckland. Bringing together the top secondary school players from across the country for an intensive development opportunity with an international component.
The NZSS programme has been running since 2001, with various formats of competitions and exchanges being held during this time. While this year is just a small window for this squad, we feel it is important to continue to bring together the top secondary school players from around the country to both recognise these athletes but also provide them opportunities to further development their skills and understanding of what it takes to perform at the next level. Many of our Silver Ferns started their journey through the NZSS programme 鈥� Laura Langman, Casey Kopua, Phoenix Karaka, Mila Reuelu-Buchanan, Kimiora Poi to name a few.
After continual observations and tracking of players throughout the season along with a trial process at the start of the weekend, the NZSS Team was selected, with the remainder of players being selected into the NZSS A team. Both teams participated in the NZSS Quad Tournament which included the Pacific Pearls, led by former Silver Fern Vilimaina Davu, and for the first time an Australian State team 鈥� the ACT Spirit.
The games that took place over Sunday and Monday showcased a high calibre of players coming through the NNZ pathway system, the NZSS Team had two convincing wins, 64-34 against the Pacific Pearls and 57-31 against the ACT Spirit. With the NZSS A team winning 54 鈥� 41 over ACT Spirit and drawing 57 鈥� 57 with the Pacific Pearls. It was an invaluable experience for all involved the future is certainly looking bright in this space.
